Description

The Mind & Life Institute is committed to building a rigorous community of interdisciplinary contemplatives, scholars, and scientists that integrates diverse perspectives and experiences. The International Research Institute in Kyoto is restricted to 75 participants who are selected through a competitive peer-review process. The gathering fosters the potential for innovative and interdisciplinary dialogue as well as potential collaborations and the emergence of new research projects. My proposal concerned two strands (as an academic and University Buddhist Chaplain). One which involves academic research into the history and modern application of contemplative practice, and the other which concerns creating contexts for a contemplative pedagogy in Higher Education (HE). Attendance at the Research Institute 2018 has overall enhanced my own work in contemplative pedagogy, and my research in the history of contemplative practice, as well as allowing me to contribute to the advancement of contemplative research more generally through my own experience and areas of expertise.
