Stories from skeletons: an osteoarchaeological analysis of nineteenth century Bristol

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

In this talk I will discuss how archaeologists gather information from skeletal remains, such as age-at-death, sex, and evidence for disease and trauma, to enable us to build up a story of the once living individual. I will use case studies from excavated cemeteries in Bristol, including St Georges, to illustrate what we can learn about both individuals and populations, as well informing us on the medical history of the city, during the nineteenth century.
