Self-reflection is a pedagogic strategy which has positive impact on students’ engagement in learning and their personal and professional development, but its use in Accounting and Finance education is under-explored. This project aims to explore the use of self-reflection feedback as a means of enhancing students’ engagement with their learning progress of highly technical subjects.

Key findings

The project reveals that students recognised the benefits of self-reflection as they became more aware of what and how they learnt about the two modules i.e. Level 6 Financial Risk Management and Level 5 Business and Personal Tax. We have also found that students were more likely to engage in self-reflection when they did really well or really bad in the online quiz. However, not all students agreed that the weekly self-reflection on learning could help them improve their academic performance. Overall, the weekly self-reflection has a positive impact on student learning as evidenced by the positive student feedback.
