Abstract
This chapter addresses the function, purpose and role of reflective practice in sports practice. Student practitioner experiences are examined through semi-structured interviews, and issues relating to the use of reflective evidence in education assessment and professional training are also discussed. In engaging with reflective practice as ‘writing to learn’, students often fail to ‘get it’ and the position-power dilemma and intrusion into personal and emotional testimony is discussed as a key ethical issue. The chapter discusses ways to keep reflective practice alive and meaningful rather than being perceived as a hoop to jump through.
