Collecting and Consent in the Colonial Period

Project Details

Description

This project has developed out of a paper presented at the conference Diaspora and Indigeneity - Intersections of Modern Jewish, Kurdish, and Amazigh History at the Heidelberg Center for Jewish Studies, March 2023. The research explores further the collection of North African jewellery made by Paul Eudel in Algeria between 1895 and 1899. Based on research with museum archives and Eudel's publications it explores questions of consent and the different forms of agency that have shaped the collections now housed at the the Musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac in Paris.

I received funding from UoA15 to support this project in 2023-24.
