N2 - This report, commissioned by the City
& Guilds Centre for Skills Development,
comes at a critical time for the UK economy
and its need for a highly skilled workforce.
As the economy begins to recover, part-time,
low-skilled work seems to be on the
increase. If the economy is to successfully
grow, the UK needs more skilled individuals
and more skilled work. This report sets
out outcomes of vocational education
that, we believe, have not previously been
so effectively articulated. We argue that
these outcomes are what employers and
customers value. If employers value these
skills, and better skilled individuals make
for a better workforce, then it is on this
basis that an economy can grow.
