Abstract
This chapter evaluates the portrayal of queens in two key works of Mary Hays: Female Biography (1803) and Memoirs of Queens (1821). It critically compares the number, selection and representation of queens included in both works and links Hays' work to the development of queenly prosopography in the period and the later development of the field of queenship studies.
